We are pleased to announce the 20th Heart of Europe Bio-Crystallography Meeting held in the Wojanów Palace in south-west Poland. The meeting will take place on 28th-30th September 2017 and is organized by Matthias Bochtler, Marcin Nowotny and Małgorzata Figiel from the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (www.iimcb.gov.pl).
As tradition has it, the meeting will welcome a prominent scientist to give the HEC keynote speech. This year, the keynote lecture will be given by Dr. Tim Clausen who is a Senior Group Leader at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna. Tim Clausen is well known for his biochemical and crystallographic work on a group of proteins (DegP) that can act as either chaperones or proteases. More recently, Tim Clausen has discovered phosphoarginine, a new labile protein modification in bacteria that he has shown to be involved in the bacterial stress response and in targeting proteins to the ClpCP protease. Dr. Tim Clausen's research is a combination of biochemical and structural work at its best. We are very much looking forward to his lecture!
